manchester city break

So our next weekend wedding (coming up soon) took us to Manchester. I hadn’t visited the city for about six years, not too much has changed and it’s still a great city. Boy and I had decided to treat it as a ‘city break’ and booked ourselves a actual hotel (not just the travel lodge as normal), which was right in the centre of town.

We got in Saturday and had a bit of a wander and a shop then we met up with some friends who live there and got taken to all the best bars. Common was a great one, apparently they get different artists in to decorate the space for them on a regular basis, Flesh & Bone by David Bailey is what’s up at the moment.

This is boy at another cool bar called Cord, we have no idea what it used to be but the downstairs was all tiled like a public toilet or an abattoir, the awesome artwork up on the walls is by typographer/illustrator Daren Newman.

The next day, after a brilliant recommendation we headed to Trof in the northern quarter for breakfast which was so delicious we went back the second day as well. Although I think Boy’s poached eggs on bubble and squeak potato cakes looks somewhat more impressive that my veggie brekkie.
